Marriage Visa

The Thailand Marriage Visa, officially a Non-Immigrant O Visa, is intended for foreigners married to Thai nationals who wish to reside long-term in Thailand. This visa allows for a one-year stay with the possibility of annual renewals, provided the applicant continues to meet the eligibility criteria.

Key Requirements:

  1. Marital Status: You must be legally married to a Thai citizen, supported by a valid marriage certificate (Kor Ror 3) and registration. If the marriage took place outside Thailand, it must be registered at a Thai district office (Amphur) to obtain a family status document (Kor Ror 22).
  2. Financial Requirements:

    • A bank deposit of 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account, maintained for at least two months prior to the application, or
    • A monthly income of at least 40,000 THB, supported by an embassy-verified income letter or a 12-month bank statement showing regular deposits
  3. Supporting Documents: These include a passport valid for at least six months, photos, and proof of residence, which may include photos of the couple together at their residence and a map of their home location

Application Process:

  1. Initial Visa: Start by applying for a 90-day Non-Immigrant O Visa from a Thai embassy or consulate.
  2. Extension in Thailand: Upon arrival, apply for a one-year extension based on marriage at a Thai immigration office. This process generally takes about a month.
  3. Reporting Obligations: Every 90 days, holders must report their address to immigration. If traveling outside Thailand, a re-entry permit is required to maintain visa validity upon re-entry.

Benefits:

  • Renewal: The visa is renewable annually as long as the financial and marital requirements are met.
  • Work Eligibility: With a work permit, Marriage Visa holders may legally work for Thai employers, adding flexibility for those seeking employment.
  • Multiple-Entry Option: A multiple-entry version allows frequent travel without the need for additional re-entry permits.

This visa provides a practical solution for foreign spouses to live legally in Thailand, with potential for continued renewal, work opportunities, and access to local services, creating a stable pathway for family life in Thailand.
