Retirement Visa

The Thailand Retirement Visa, formally known as the Non-Immigrant OA Visa, is tailored for foreigners over the age of 50 who want to retire in Thailand. This visa provides a one-year stay with the option for annual renewal, enabling retirees to live in Thailand long-term as long as they meet the renewal criteria.

Key Requirements:

  1. Age: Applicants must be 50 years or older.
  2. Financial Proof:
    • A bank deposit of at least 800,000 THB in a Thai bank, maintained for at least two months before the application.
    • Alternatively, a monthly income of 65,000 THB or a combination of income and savings totaling 800,000 THB annually.
  3. Health Insurance: Coverage requirements include a minimum of 400,000 THB for inpatient care and 40,000 THB for outpatient care.
  4. Additional Documentation: This includes a police clearance certificate, a medical certificate, and proof of Thai health insurance coverage (if applying from outside Thailand).

Types of Retirement Visas:

  1. O-A Visa: Allows a one-year stay with annual renewals, provided financial and other requirements are maintained.
  2. O-X Visa: Available to citizens of certain countries, this option grants a five-year stay, renewable once for a total of 10 years, with higher financial requirements (3 million THB in a Thai bank and an annual income of 1.2 million THB)

Key Benefits:

  • Renewability: This visa is renewable each year without requiring applicants to leave the country.
  • Multiple-Entry: Allows multiple entries during the visa period, so retirees can leave and return without additional re-entry permits.
  • Local Benefits: Retirees can open Thai bank accounts, obtain a driver’s license, and enjoy affordable healthcare access in Thailand.

The application process involves obtaining an initial 90-day Non-Immigrant O Visa (if applying from abroad), converting it to the O-A Retirement Visa upon arrival, and meeting 90-day reporting requirements with Thai Immigration, which can be simplified through online reporting options or authorized agents.
